COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
Malachite is committed to being a “good neighbour” in the communities in which we work. We do this by being transparent in our communication with landholders, Shire Councils and the general community, and by supporting selected community activities. Those we currently support are shown below.
In addition, wherever possible we buy locally, we use local contractors, and we provide employment and training opportunities for members of the local community.

Opera In The Paddock, by contrast, brings culture to the bush. Since 2002, Opera NorthWest has staged their very successful evening of opera highlights, bringing well-known opera singers, supported by a small orchestral ensemble, to the Inverell district in northern NSW. The success and popularity of the event has seen audiences grow from 700 to nearly 2000 in the few years it has been staged. We are pleased to support this happy community event which brings the locals together and also introduces outsiders to the beauty of the area.

The NSW Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service provides essential, lifesaving services to the communities of NSW including the remote and rural areas in which we work. Their work is invaluable in search and rescue and we are pleased to support their services.

The village of Tingha lies within Malachite’s exploration areas south of Inverell, and was once the centre of a thriving alluvial and hard rock tin mining industry with a population of 2,500 people in the 1880’s. Today the small community is undergoing a program of revitalisation through the “Tingha Regeneration Program”, and Malachite is proud to be a Corporate Partner in this exciting program. Other supporters include the Uniting Church, Telstra and BEST Employment. The objective of the program is to grow the social, economic and environmental structure of the Tingha community by breaking the cycles of unemployment and low self-esteem through education, training, new businesses, new industries, and employment opportunities.
